The University of Birmingham is a leading research-led UK university. It ranked 15th in the UK overall (out of 154 institutions) in the 2014 Research Fortnight University Power Ranking, with 81% of its research outputs ranked as either world-leading or internationally excellent in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. The University also ranked within the top 150 in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University World Rankings (2014) and 62nd in the QS world university rankings (2013/14).
Birmingham will co-ordinate the project, lead WPs 3 and 4 and advise in WPs 1 and 2. The co-ordinator will be Professor Stuart Harrad, who has considerable expertise in a wide range of research aspects into the environmental fate and behaviour of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) with a particular focus on BFRs.

NUI Galways ranks among the top 2% of Universities in the world with a prestigious history spanning two centuries.
Dr. Berresheim will lead WPs 1 and 2 and assist Prof. Harrad with WPs 3 and 4. His expertise is in Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry, including the fate of PCBs and cycling of heavy metals. He has been the leader of numerous multi-national field studies related to global and regional cycles of biogenic sulphur, nitrogen, and organic compounds.
